A photo of Kapoho Tide Pools on the Big Island Of Hawaii.

Kapoho Sunrise

Kapoho Big Island Hawaii

Kapoho Tide Pools was a little marine sanctuary located in the Puna District of the Big Island of Hawaii. It was known for its beautiful coral and a variety of reef fish. As of June 2018, I am sad to say that a vigorous lava flow coming from fissure #8 in Leilani Estates made its way into the ocean taking out Kapoho Tide Pools.

Kapoho is a very special place for many people. This photo is extra special to me considering it was taken the morning after I got married. I woke up early from the beach house we were staying at in Kapoho and walked out to the reef. This photo always proved to be difficult because it had to be low tide, and low tide needed to occur at the same time as sunrise. Luckily for me, not only did both factors align, but there was also an amazing sunrise that displayed an array of colors. Photo © copyright by Wade Morales.
